Baseball is the medium for a lot of other things - a return to the simple, to the understated, to the basics, to relationships, to the real reason we do things, right down to playing a game simply for the joy of it. The movie isn’t about baseball of course. One MLB official told USA Today that he believes the game will become an annual event and that the stadium will become the site for Little League, high school, college and minor league games. The stadium is described as temporary, but the field, dugouts, bullpens and fences will remain. Two years ago, the league promised that it would resurrect the cornfield-flanked ballpark from the 1989 Kevin Costner classic, Field of Dreams, for one night of baseball-at the site where the movie was filmed, no less. On Thursday night, the MLB held its long-awaited Field of Dreams Game in Dyersville, Iowa. Just when you're ready to break up with baseball-after all of the sign-stealing, cheating, PEDs, sticky stuff, what have you-the game reminds you why you fell in love with it in the first place.
